How Ahuntsic Comes Alive in Mid-May: A Guide to the Neighbourhood’s Best Park
May in Montreal is a truly special time. The city finally shakes off the last bits of winter chill, and the streets instantly fill with sunshine, laughter, and the fresh scent of blooming greenery. Our neighbourhood of Ahuntsic literally comes alive these days, as residents move their daily lives outdoors. If you want to see the area fully wake up after the long winter, there is simply no better place to be than our local park. Welcome to a virtual stroll through our favorite green oasis!
It is now mid-May, and the weather is absolutely perfect for walks and outdoor games. The parks and playgrounds have completely come to life. People are bringing out folding tables, lawn chairs, blankets, and even small sun tents. What I love most is how everyone creates their own perfect comfort spot right on the grass. Some are tanning, others are playing a lively game of frisbee, and some bring small portable BBQs to grill up some sausages. You often see large groups of families and friends getting together to share food and catch up. In moments like these, you can really feel how much neighbours respect and genuinely care for one another.
Parc Ahuntsic, which I featured in my video today, is the true heart of our neighbourhood, packed with different spots for everyone to enjoy. Right in the center lies a beautiful pond. The water is always calm, and you can often see ducks and Canada geese lazily swimming around.
For me, this is my absolute favourite spot in the entire park. I love spreading out a soft blanket right by the water to play with my son. We spend hours watching the birds, planning our summer, and just soaking in the moment while the peaceful neighbourhood life flows around us.
For families with kids, there is a fantastic, modern playground tailored to different age groups. A bit further down, the skatepark is buzzing with kids on skateboards, inline skates, and scooters practising their latest tricks. If you are looking for some quiet time, there is a peaceful shaded area with benches under thick trees, perfect for relaxing with a fresh book.
Interestingly, this park, like many others in Montreal, features a large hill. In the winter, it turns into a steep sledding hill, but during the summer, it serves as a great spot for a soccer match or just sitting back to catch some sun. As for my personal favourite feature—it has to be the sturdy metal hammocks set up close to the water. It feels amazing to just sway gently while catching the warm May breeze.
Parc Ahuntsic is more than just a spot on a map; it is a living example of how a shared space can bring people of all ages and backgrounds together. It is in moments like these, sitting on a blanket by the pond with my son, that I realize why we love our neighbourhood so much. Out here, surrounded by the rustle of leaves and children’s laughter, the best family memories are made. Come visit Parc Ahuntsic to catch your own share of warmth and coziness—who knows, we might just bump into each other by the water!
